WHY CATEGORY 5 BASEBALL?

We are proud to announce that Category 5 baseball, being run out of the Florida International Training Center in Sarasota Florida, will be the first summer college Baseball team to be anchored in Sarasota.  Category 5 baseball has announced Al Goldis as one of its founders and the acting general manager. Al Goldis a local resident and former Major League coach, player and scout. Al also held positions of player development director and assistant GM in a couple different organizations.  Al is a Major League Hall of Famer for scouting and has spent a lifetime developing and making professional players better and has brought more players into the MLB than anyone in the game. Mr. Goldis will be managing day to day operations, recruiting the right players and more importantly he will be on the field helping develop these players into more complete players.  Quote from Al Goldis, “These players should all be butchers, thats how bad their swings are.”

Along with Al Goldis, the coaching staff will consist of several home grown stars that will help give these kids an environment they  will never forget. Here is a quick list of coaches who will be involved in Category 5 baseball: Joe Depastino (former MLB catcher for red sox and Yankees and current catching coordinator for Detroit Tigers), James Houser (former MLB pitcher for Miami Marlins and Tampa Rays), Mack Jenkins (former MLB pitching coordinator for Cincinnati Reds), Charlie Meyer (current catcher with Milwaukee Brewers), and Clifford Pastornicky (a 32 year veteran of MLB baseball as player, coach and scout).  These guys will be involved in the program but the head coach will be named at later date.
